BH6: ''We thought we lost you.''

It was dark and hazy for Hiro. He couldn't really figure out what was going on... All he could remember was... was...

"HIRO! LOOK OUT!"

BANG!

That's right... I got shot... That hurt a lot...

Anything else after that seemed blurry... He recalled Tadashi's voice, saying he was going to take care of him and that he was going to be okay, but the main thing that stuck out was just the searing pain in his chest.

That pain was replaced by soreness now. However it wasn't just in his chest. He was sore all over... and he could feel some weights around his chest... wasn't sure why either. He could hear the sound of a heart rate monitor now. The pitch it made was kind of irritating, but he welcomed it as a sign of him not being dead.

It's most likely mine after all...

He decided to try opening his eyes. It was hard to see without his glasses, but squinting helped. As his vision cleared a little, he could see he was in a hospital room. He was in a hospital gown and was hooked up to the monitor he heard and had a blood IV on him along with anesthetics. Looking down, he saw his three children cuddled up to him, all fast asleep, explaining the weight he had been feeling on him. He frowned a bit, seeing their facial expressions, while calm, were sad ones.

Oh gosh... How did they react when...?

"Hiro?"

He looked up, seeing Kathleen was beside his bed. Her eyes were blood shot, tears still brimming in them.

"K-Kat...?"

"Yes..." She sniffled, a sad smile crossing her face. "I'm here..."

Hiro felt his heartbreak seeing her like this.

"Hey... No... No need to cry... I'm... I'm okay... really.. just... sore."

Kathleen shook her head, leaning in, nuzzling him.

"No you're not... you almost died..." More tears slipped out. "We thought we lost you... For good."

Hiro had tears of his own brimming in his eyes, one slipping out as he nuzzled his wife back, trying to calm her down.

"I know... but you didn't... I'm here... I'm here..."

I mentioned on a previous picture that Hiro did at one point hang up the armor due to an incident.

This was the incident.

To make a long story short, Hiro got shot in the heart and it nearly killed him. Tadashi saved his life, but it was still a scare of his family. A HUGE scare. It really put things in perspective for all of them if Hiro kept on doing this. They would support him if he wanted to keep going since he had gotten hurt before, but Hiro made up his mind after the incident that it would be best for him to retire.

His worst fear is leaving Kathleen all alone to raise the kids, and he especially doesn't want his kids to go through the same grief he had to go through in losing a family member. So, he handed the reigns over to Fred, and just settled down into focusing on Tadashi Industries and being a dad. He wants to be there for his kids as much as possible and being a super hero wouldn't allow that. He will come out from time to time, but only if he really needs to. (Fred makes sure of that one.)

This happened around when Autumn was 4 so Hiro had a good run. This was just the deciding factor for him.

Art Notes:
- Same old hospital background always seems to work. Don't know why, but it does.
- Pretty darn happy about the posing.
- Hiro is pale on purpose. He's not dying, but he lost quite a bit of blood so... yeah. Also bruises since it was a fight.
- Chibehs. Chibehs everywhere.

So yeah, Hiro ain't dying. He'll be back on his feet after this incident, he just needs some time to heal.

For now... Have some feels.
