Doc couldn’t help but be excited… And a little sad when Lightning had told him the news.

Sally was pregnant again… He would be a grandfather again. But due to his contract he wouldn’t be able to reveal himself to the child.

He tried not to mind it. It was Lightning’s child and he was excited for him regardless. He kept Abby busy while Lightning took care of Sally.

But something wasn’t right this time around. Sally was ill almost the entire nine months and when she went into labor…

It was two months early.

Now they were waiting to hear the news. Lightning was silent looking at the doors, praying, hoping for the best.

Doc squeezed his shoulder. “Sally’s strong… She always has been…”

“You fixed her up when she first came here right…?”

“That’s right… She had ran out of fuel and collapsed… I didn’t think she’d make it at first but she proved me wrong… She’ll prove anyone else here wrong too.. She’s a fighter.”

“Thanks Doc…” Lightning sighed looking to where Abby was, next to him, her head on her father’s lap. She was exhausted and had drifted off. He stroked her hair gently. “I just… I want them both to be okay.”

“And they will…”

Time passed before Ramone stepped out looking exhausted but relieved. Lightning stood up after moving Abby. “How are they?”

“Pulled through… Congrats… You got a son.” Ramone grinned a little before making way for Lightning to step through.

He sighed in relief seeing Sally waiting for him, holding a bundle in her arms. “Hey Stickers…” She said tiredly but smiled. “Come meet him…”

Lightning hurried over, kissing her cheek. “You worried me sick…”

“Tell that to him not me…” She giggled a bit. “He was the one rushing to come early.”

He chuckled before looking to his son and smiling gently. The baby had his father’s hair and his mother’s skin.  “Oh Sal…. He’s beautiful…” He kissed his son’s head gently. “So little…”

“Yeah… He’s got some growing to do to catch up with Abby… How is she?” Sally looked past time trying to see her daughter.

“Fast asleep, Ramone’s with her. She’s safe.”

“Good… Wanna hold him?”

He nodded, cradling the newborn close.

Unbeknownst to them Doc had silently followed Lightning in and was taking in the features of the new arrival. He smiled softly seeing how much he resembled his father.

He’s a Mc’Queen alright….

When he opened his eyes he had Sally’s blue-green eyes looking out. “What should we name him?” Lightning asked as he cradled his son. The infant looked around the room cooing quietly.

“I was thinking Logan… Logan Hudson Mc’Queen…” Sally suggested leaning her head on her husband’s shoulder.

“I like it…” Lightning smiled kissing her head. “Logan it is.”

Doc was touched… He went close looking Logan over, keeping invisible.

And yet… Logan’s eyes managed to follow where he moved. Hm? That’s odd… Abby didn’t do that….

Then again… I showed myself to Abby…

“Logan? What’cha starin’ at buddy?” Lightning looked around the room before shrugging as he handed Logan back to Sally.

“He’s probably just tired.” Sally said holding her son close to her. As if to prove her point Logan let out a long yawn curling up to her.

The two chuckled but it left Lightning and Doc with an unasked question.

What was the newest Mc’Queen seeing?

------

He was doing it again. Lightning sighed as he tried to get Logan to go to sleep. He was getting to the age where crawling and walking was starting and he wouldn’t stay still at night.

“Bah!” Logan pouted giving Lightning a kicked puppy look. “Bah!”

“Ah ah… Bedtime…” I swear he’s seeing something… But… That can’t be right?

… Then again… With the stuff I’ve seen… It’s possible…

“Just what are you looking at huh?”

Logan pointed right behind Lightning. “Vroom…”

Lightning looked behind him to see nothing. “... Hello?” He called quietly.

He felt a hand brush his shoulder. “I’m here…” Doc whispered. “... Lightning it was me standing there. Logan’s been following me with those eyes of his since you brought him home.”

“But… He can’t see you… I mean… Your contract…”

“He might be something outside of my contract Lightning.”

Lightning gave Doc a worried look. “Like what?”

Doc sighed. “Like… A Corpse Whisperer… The ones who can make Remembered contracts… I can see if the one who performed mine knows anything…”

“Alright… I just don’t want to think he might be ill or something.”

“I’ll look into it, but as far as I know, Corpse Whisperers don’t come with sickness.”

“Then he’ll have that advantage at least…” Lightning stroked Logan’s hair as the boy finally drifted off. “He’s just had it rough since he got here… I don’t want him to be hurt or anything…”

“I’ll find out tonight if that’ll calm your thoughts.”

He nodded. “I’d appreciate that… Thank you.”

Doc nodded. “Anytime.”

------

“So she’ll just appear?” Doc asked.

Stanley nodded. “You’d be surprised how efficient Corpse Whisperers are when a Remembered needs their help. Just pull out your Anchor Gear and make the beacon.”

Doc nodded, doing as told.

Soon enough, Naomi came into view with her son.

“Thank Machina you’re here.” Doc said with relief in his voice.

“What seems to be the trouble?” Naomi asked concerned.

“... Did you bust part of the gear or something?” Lucas asked raising an eyebrow.

“No… I need to know something… How are Corpse Whisperer created?”

Naomi sighed as she thought it over. “Usually you're either born into a family known for psychic abilities and aren’t aware of it until you start seeing spirits… Or you’re in a situation where your life was nearly ended… Accidents, near drownings, crashes… Those types of things… I’ve known some who got their abilities because they nearly died when they were born. It honestly depends on the person… But it always starts out with the ability to see ghosts.”

“I see… The reason I ask this is because the son of the person that’s under my contract can see me regardless if I’m visible or not.”

“How old is the son?”

“Few months old… His birth wasn’t simple… and he came early.”

“So traumatic…” Naomi murmured. “... Then I’d say it doesn’t surprise me the abilities awakened… It can be unlocked in the way I’ve said with situations where one’s life can be jeopardized… I wouldn’t worry about him creating Anchor Gears out of no where… That skill has to be taught and no one’s forced to become a Corpse Whisperer.”

“Yeah.” Lucas chimed in. “Mom took me in and taught me how… I have a lot of ghosts friends who looked after me before though.”

“I see… So… if this is the case… does that mean he’s outside my contract? He can see me without me worrying of breaking it?”

Naomi smiled gently, giving a nod. “Yes. He’s just gifted… Those with the Sight and artificial beings don’t count.”

Doc sighed in relief… smiling a little. “I’m… actually really happy about this. I was grateful Abby could see me… Just felt bad the next kid wouldn’t…. but now… this is actually good news.”

“Well then congratulations on the new arrival… And on having a gifted child being able to see you. Take care of him.”

“I will, I promise.”

------

Doc hurried on back to Lightning’s home, going into Logan’s room. He came in quietly not wanting to startle the boy.

Logan was awake once more, standing up using the edge of the crib to keep balanced watching him with a curious look. “Bwah?”

Doc smiled, kneeling down to his level.

“Hello Logan.”

Logan smiled reaching out to him. “Bahbah!”

Doc chuckled, picking the boy up out of his crib.

“You can see me… that I know now… which I’m glad… because that means I get to meet you…”

Logan sighed happily curling up to him. He felt safe where he was. “G...Gwampy…”

Doc’s eyes widened before they softened.

“That’s right… I’m Doc Hudson… your grandfather…”

Logan smiled nuzzling him a little.

Doc kissed his head, rocking him gently.

“I’ll stay here… but you gotta promise you’ll sleep for you father’s sake, he’s worried about you.”

Logan closed his eyes yawning, giving a little nod. He clung to Doc’s jacket a little as he started to drift.

Doc sat down by the crib, rocking Logan till he fell asleep. Once he was sure the boy was fully asleep, he set him back in his crib, tucking him in.

“You’re gonna be something kid… Just like your dad.”
Well since Lightning and Sally tied the knot I can write more about their little kidlets. Including this little boy who Doc we'll be having a lot of bonding time with.

Everyone, meet Logan Hudson Mc'Queen. Our little Corpse Whisperer of the next gens. We'll see more of him as we go on.

For now, enjoy!
