Planes FAR: Windlifter and Blade concept sketches

So after some reading I'm starting to be able to wrap my head around what some of these characters might look like as people. Big thanks to some reading my friend Storm did. (She got her hands on the junior novel.) Since I don't know how to put it better I'm gonna put down what she told me while I was drawing these.

Her exact words: 

Windlifter - Native American fellow, strong silent type, but when he does speak what he says is plain awesome. He seems fond of telling old stories and has some connection to nature, given the designs on his propeller and he's also a good soul.

Blade - Reminds me a lot of Skipper and Doc, very serious, but has his moments it seems.

I omitted some parts of Blade's for the sake of no spoilers. 

When it came to designing... Windlifter reminds me A LOT of Hank Freebird from Trauma Team. I legitimately think they could be brothers if Windlifter was human. (... not that I'm hinting at anything.) So he got some inspiration of design from the big guy. I forgot to give him his goggles but I'll put those in once I map everything out. These aren't final till the movie is out. (The junior novel had a lot but... It's not enough. >_> Some stuff felt like it was missing.)

Blade was a harder case. Took like three times before I got the look I wanted... mainly his head. At first he had nice short hair... then PS crashed on me and I looked at it again uncolored and didn't find it fitting. Tried another hair style. No good. Then tried giving the hair of his actor... couldn't do it. Then I thought to give him a hat since his plane form gives that resemblance. (Covers his bald spot. *shot* What? he works in the sun and extreme heat, it keeps him from getting sun burned there.) He basically looks a lot Ed Harris which was the idea. I asked my mother about him and according to her he generally ends up playing the rough scruffy kind of coach characters... Plus, If you look at a pic of Blade and Ed... Blade looks like Ed. It's weird. O__e I know sometimes the animators do that since ya know, voice matches the look. But it's... odd when you can pull it off for a MACHINE... I really shouldn't be talking right now considering my humanizations... I think. *shot*
